CII Mysuru hosts Conference on ‘Impact of Cyber Security in Post-Pandemic Digital World’
Mysore/Mysuru: “Cyber Security Centre of Excellence (CoE) will work as a potential accelerator and key driver in ground-breaking product development in this segment by fostering start-ups and young innovators,” said Dr. Omkar Rai, Director-General, STPI, while announcing the Cyber Security CoE at STPI’s new facility in Mysuru during the CII Mysuru Annual IT Conference held here recently.
Delivering the keynote address, U.B. Pravin Rao, COO of Infosys, mentioned that since the pandemic, there is a huge surge in cyber attacks and Work From Home (WFH) has become more vulnerable for getting hacked, as many WFH systems will not have required protection from the cyber attacks.
Rao also stated that there were more than 300 percent increase in cyber attacks since the pandemic. By 2025, the spending on cyber services alone will touch 100 billion dollars. Continuing, he said that, by 2030, the cyber products market will reach 35 billion dollars which is currently a 4 billion dollar market and there is a huge shortage of cyber talents today which gives the relevance of a Cyber Security CoE.
Yaduveer Wadiyar of Mysuru royal family said that Mysuru has been spearheading changes for India with bringing-up great institutions of everlasting value and the Cyber Security CoE will bring everlasting value to the country.
Amit Kumar, then Chairman, CII Mysuru, expressed his happiness to be associated with like-minded institutions to promote Mysuru as a pioneer in Cyber Security field and added that Mysuru has all the potential to become as a Cyber Security Hub of the country.
Addressing the Conference, Pavan Ranga, then Vice-Chairman of CII Mysuru, said that currently most of the business activities are held online and all such activities generated data, which is available online and vulnerable to cyber attacks.
Defence sector is going to be more of cyber war than a physical one. Cyber security is a human issue and we need to look at the way we look at it and handle it wisely, Ranga said.
Praveen Rao Pejaver of CII Mysuru, stated that the new norm during and after the pandemic is and will be even more dependent on a secure and reliable cyberspace.
Later in the conference, Prof. S. Sadagopan, Director, IIITB, spoke on the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPA 2020) and the Data Security.
Bikash Barai, Co-founder Cigital and Co-founder, FireCompass (a TEDx Speaker), spoke on Cloud Computing aspect in Cyber Security while Sandip Kumar Panda addressed on how the pandemic has impacted cyber space in the world and how vulnerable is the data and privacy today.
In the panel discussion, P. Rajshekar, Director, ISAC, Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, MD & CEO of Lahari, the ESDM Cluster in Mysuru and Bharat Raigangar, General Manager, Cybersecurity & Risk Services, Wipro Limited, discussed about opportunities and benefits from Cyber Security CoE.
The Conference was attended by more than 300 participants from Mysuru, Bengaluru and other cities.
