Mysuru jail inmates to get food in hotbox

Mysore/Mysuru: In a first of its kind initiative, Mysuru Central Prison authorities have chalked out a proposal to supply freshly cooked food to the prisoners in hotbox. The authorities concerned have invited tenders from the local licensed vendors and registered firms to supply different capacity hotbox.

Over 800 prisoners are lodged in the jail and as per the manual, the dinner is provided by 6.30 pm. However, the prisoners wait till night to eat, by keeping food with them. Till then, the food will lose its freshness, which may take a toll on their health upon consumption.  

The jail authorities wrote to the Finance Division of Prisons and Correctional Services Department, which has also approved the proposal to supply food in hotbox.

There are about 15 to 30 prisoners lodged in different barracks of the jail. They will be provided food in total 24 hotboxes of different capacities like; 10 litres, 20 litres and 30 litres.

 According to a press release from Superintendent of Mysuru Central Prison, the tender with rate list including Goods and Services Tax (GST), has been invited from the vendors. Interested should submit their rate list before 4 pm of Sept. 5.
