It is unfortunate that Mysuru is losing out to Bengaluru on the ‘Film City’ bargain (Star of Mysore dated Jan. 9). The flimsy reason stated by the concerned Minister that Bengaluru is known for its talent in animation works of films is not at all convincing enough for changing the earlier decision of setting up the Film City in Mysuru.
Further, if the Government’s intention is to develop a cultural centre for the entire country to be proud of, then the most ideal place to establish the Film City is Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka. Bengaluru is already facing the greatest chaos in traffic jams, pollution and failed infrastructural facilities including water-logging during rainy seasons and it is a gigantic concrete jungle making it one of the least liveable cities in our country.
Sooner or later it will become another Delhi in traffic jams and pollution. If it has to retain the once adored name of Garden City of our country, it got to decongest the city by shifting at least 50% of its establishments to other places, thereby it could considerably restrict the inflow of the floating population entering into the city.
In short, the Government must see reasons and retain the decision of setting up the Film City in the cultural capital of our State, Mysuru.
