Mysuru: State Information Commissioner H.C. Sathyan has imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on Mysuru Taluk Tahsildar B. L. Girish for failing to honour the order of the Commission to provide information to an applicant under Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Advocate S.T. Sadananda Gowda had submitted an application to the Tahsildar on Oct.20, 2019 for the non-availability of certificate related to the death of a physically challenged person’s father. However, there was no response from Tahsildar’s Office even after waiting till Feb.9, 2020. However, when the advocate went and enquired at the Tahsildar’s office following day (Feb.10, 2020), he was told that the said application has been transferred to the respective office.
Following this, Gowda had lodged a complaint with the Karnataka Information Commission, Bengaluru, against the Tahsildar for failing to furnish the required information within the stipulated time of 30 days under the Information Act.
As the Tahsildar failed to provide the information, which amounted to dereliction of duty, The Information Commissioner imposed the fine on the Tahsildar.
