Formal inauguration by Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda on Jan. 7
Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru will host National Sports Meet of Union Government’s Ekalavya Model Residential Schools from Jan. 8 to 12, 2024.
Chairing a preparatory meeting in this regard at the DC’s office here yesterday, ST Welfare Department and Department of Youth Empowerment & Sports (DYES) Principal Secretary Manjunath Prasad said that the Sports Meet will be formally inaugurated by Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda and a few other Ministers on Jan. 7.
Pointing out that more than 4,500 students from Ekalavya Schools and about 1,500 teachers from across the country will be taking part in the 5-day Sports Meet, he said that the Meet is being organised in Mysuru for the first time at an estimated cost of Rs. 20 crore.
Continuing, Prasad said that the Sports Meet will take place at 5 venues across Mysuru and the concerned departments are working out the Logistics for the event. He further said that the participants must be introduced to the rich culture and heritage of Mysuru by taking them to the Palace, Chamundi Hill, etc.
DYES Deputy Director Dr. Jitendra Shetty said that the Sports Meet will feature 10 team events and 18 athletics events. Stating that necessary arrangements are being made for the Meet, he said that 3,500 participants are already covered under Insurance.
Pointing out that the new COVID guidelines will be followed , Dr. Shetty said that Nodal Officers will be appointed for every State. The place and time of the sporting events and the details of the assigned Nodal Officers have already been dispatched, he added.
