Mysuru: Nadavidyalaya Academy of Music and Dance, Hebbal, in association with Kannada and Culture Department, Bengaluru, had organised Karnatak Classical vocal duo chamber concert by S.V. Poornashree and Aparna Kodankiri, disciples of Vid. M.S. Naveen, at Nadavidyalaya Hall recently.
The concert started with a Veeriboni varna in raga Bhairavi set to Khanda Atta tala composed by Pachhameriyam Adi Appaiar to continue with Muttuswami Deekshitar’s ‘Vaataapi ganapatim’ in raga Hamsadhwani set to adi tala. The next rendition was Vid. G.N. Balasubramanyam’s kruti ‘Saraswati namosthute’ in Saraswati raga set to Roopaka tala. Supplement to all these was, Thyagaraja’s ‘Shambho Mahadeva’ in Kaamavardhini set to Roopaka tala and gurulekha etuvanti in Gowri Manohari raga set to Khanda Chaapu tala, a beautiful composition of Saint Thyagaraja again.
The main kruthi for the concert chosen was the famous Sri Mysore Vasudevacharya’s ‘Raa raa raajeeva lochana raama’ in Mohana set to vilamba adi tala. Sangeetha Pitamaha Purandaradasa’s devaranama ‘Yamanellu kaanalendu’ in Shivaranjini raga set to adi tala concluded with energetic and soulful thillana by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna in raga brindavani set to adi tala.
The duo was accompanied by Vikram Bharadwaj on mridanga and Chethan on violin.
