Mysuru: Marking Nagara Panchami festival, devotees across the city worshipped the idols of snake God made of silver, stone or wood yesterday.
Nagara Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of the brighter half of the lunar month of Shravana (July or August), according to the Hindu calendar.
According to Hindu Mythology (Garuda Purana), offering prayer to snake on this day is auspicious and will usher good tidings in one’s life.
Many devotees, mostly women and children, were seen worshipping anthills nearby their residences by offering milk, flowers and other puja articles since morning.
In other practices, images of Naga deities made of silver, stone or wood are first bathed with water and milk and then worshipped with the recitation of prayers and mantras, seeking the blessings of Lord Subramanya.
Special pujas were performed at several temples across the city marking the special day.
