Mysuru: Former ZP Member Nandini Chandrashekar took charge as the new District Women Congress President at a programme organised by the Mysuru District Congress at Chikkammaniketana Kalyana Mantap in Kuvempunagar here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chamarajanagar MP R. Dhruvanarayan appealed the Congress workers to work in unity for enabling the party to retain power in the 2018 General Assembly election.
Thanking the party workers’ honest efforts in the Nanjangud and Gundlupet by-poll, Dhruvanarayan said that it was important to explain the people about the Congress Government’s Welfare Schemes and development works in the last four years. Pointing out that women workers were always given due recognition in the Congress, the MP said that the Siddharamaiah Government’s performance in the last four years helped the Congress to win the by-polls. Maintaining that the BJP lost the by-polls because of its non-performing Government at the Centre, the MP said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi was striving hard for organising women in all States.
MLA Vasu, in his address, said that the presence of more number of women in any Government or the party, will certainly given a boost to administration. Pointing out that the previous UPA Government was very much for women reservation, Vasu regretted that the Bill could not be passed due to the non-co-operation of the then Opposition parties. The MLA further said that the Congress would pass the Woman Reservation Bill if it was elected to power.
KPCC Women’s Wing Vice-President Nagalakshmi appealed the Congress workers to ensure the defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next election. Alleging that PM Modi was anti-women, anti-farmer and anti-people, Nagalakshmi said that CM Siddharamaiah was working overtime for the upliftment of economically-weaker sections in the society. KPCC Women’s Wing President Lakshmi Hebbalkar, who also addressed the gathering, declared that former ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath has been appointed as Secretary of KPCC Women’s Wing.
Dist. Congress President Dr. Vijaykumar, MLC R. Dharmasena, MLA Geetha Mahadevaprasad, City Congress President R. Murthy, ZAK Chairperson Mallige Veeresh and former State Women’s Commission Chairperson Manjula Manasa were present.
