A one-day National-level Conference on ‘Frontiers in Bio-Technology and Life Sciences’ was hosted by MMK&SDM Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Krishnamurthypuram, in the city, at the College auditorium on Friday.
Speaking after inaugurating the Conference, Dr.H.S. Prakash, Chairman, DoS in Bio-Technology, University of Mysore (UoM), said that Bio-Technology is a frontier area of science in life sciences.
Pointing out that Bio-Technology has brought in many conceptual changes in understanding the life science processes, he said that it has contributed significantly to human health management, diagnostics, genome editing, recombinant vaccine production, etc.
Highlighting that plant bio-technology has helped in developing transgenic plants with novel traits, Dr. Prakash said that microbial transformation has helped in the production of insulin and other growth harmones.
He further said that it was the duty of Scientists to convince the consumers about the safety of emerging technologies for wider acceptance.
Dr. Cletus D’Souza, Chair Emeritus of Department of Bio-Chemistry, UoM, Prof. K.V. Damodara Gowda, Principal of College and others were present.
The day-long conference featured technical sessions addressed by experts, followed by a poster presentation.
