Mysuru: An awareness programme was held to mark National Consumer Day, organised by Seshadripuram Degree College in collaboration with its NSS and NCC units, along with Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP), at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds on Dec. 24.
MGP Founder President Bhamy V. Shenoy, the chief guest, highlighted various ways in which consumers are misled in today’s market and emphasised the importance of consumer vigilance.
The event aimed to educate the public on consumer rights through engaging street plays performed by students. They raised slogans to draw attention and spread awareness about critical issues such as online shopping frauds, drug abuse, and the need to understand consumer rights and responsibilities.
Despite loud music from the nearby exhibition food court, the students’ performance attracted many visitors. Their street play illustrated how consumers can protect themselves from falling prey to fraudulent practices, especially in the era of internet transactions. It also showcased the dangers of narcotic drugs and alcohol, urging people to stay vigilant.
Bhamy Shenoy commended the students for their efforts and encouraged them to perform similar street plays in other parts of the city to reach a wider audience.
Mysore Grahakara Parishat Members Dayananda Sagar and S.V. Shankar, NSS Programme Officer P.R. Gurumurthy Bhat, Kannada faculty member K.M. Siddappa, NCC Officer Lt. R. Kumar and several NSS volunteers were present on the occasion.
