National-level chess tournament for hearing impaired

Mysuru: The Mysore District Deaf Association (MDDA) for the first time will be hosting the 25th National Chess Championship for Hearing Impaired at Nityananda Kalyana Mantap in Vidyaranyapuram from Jan. 5 to 8, said MDDA President S. Murthy, here yesterday.

Addressing the press persons at Pathrakarthara Bhavan, he said a total of 180 chess players from 22 States would be taking part in the championship to be conducted in two categories — above 18 years men and women; below 18 years men and women.

The winners of the tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh along with a trophy.

As part of the championship, free job mela has also been organised on Jan. 4 at Rahul Convention Hall in city for specially-abled for which 300 candidates have already registered, he said. For details contact Mob: 94483-15773.
