Mysuru: A National Meet of fishermen will be held at Bengaluru tomorrow (Dec.14).
Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, Karnataka State Gangaamatastha Sangha Hon. President Prof. Vasanthamma said that the meet will take place at National College Ground, Basavanagudi at 10 am tomorrow.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, Fisheries Minister Srinivas Poojari and several other Ministers of the State and Central Governments are expected to take part. Pointing out that fishermen are identified under 39 castes, she said that the meet will press the Government to include Gangaamatastha community in the ST list. The meet will also urge the Government to fulfil the community demands such as development of Ambigara Chowdaiah Gurupeetha, Rs.100 crore grant for Ambigara Chowdaiah Development Corporation and Rs. 25 crore grant for construction of Gangaamatastha Sangha Students Hostel and renovation of Gangaparameshwari Temple at Bengaluru, among others, Prof. Vasanthamma said.
Sangha’s Mysuru District President Chikkalingaswamy, community leaders Nagendra, Somashekar and others were present.
