Mysuru: The National Seminar on Translation and Nation will be held at the National Translation Mission (NTM), Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, on Sept. 26 and 27 to commemorate 30th September, declared as International Translation Day by the United Nations.
NTM, as a Mission, is committed to establishing translation as industry in the country. It is organising this Seminar to deliberate issues about the role of translation in relation to nationhood, nation-building, transnational identities, globalised national etc.
Prof. D. G. Rao, Director, CIIL, will inaugurate the Seminar tomorrow. Prof. T. S. Satyanath, Professor Emeritus, Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies, University of Delhi, will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Tariq Khan, Officer-in-charge, NTM, will introduce the Seminar. Delegates who will deliver plenary and valedictory talks and chair the sessions include: Prof. Shivaram Padikkal, Professor, CALTS, University of Hyderabad; Prof. P. P. Giridhar, former Professor-cum-Deputy Director, CIIL; Prof. C. N. Srinath, Chairman, Director, Dhvanyaloka Centre for Indian Studies, Mysuru. Over 15 scholars affiliated to Institutions representing various streams of research from the country will present their work.
