Sir,
In his article “Musings on Guru Poornima Day” (Star of Mysore dated July 15) Prof. A.V. Narasimha Murthy has mentioned that Teacher’s Day is not celebrated in the USA, which is not correct.
Traditionally, the Tuesday of the first full week of May is celebrated as National Teacher Day in the US. Hence, the actual date varies from one year to another. Additionally, the whole week is considered as the Teacher Appreciation Week, and lots of activities are carried out on this occasion.
Indeed, I got an opportunity to see the celebration of National Teacher Day on May 9, 2017 as I was in USA during that period with my friend’s family. It was good to see the teachers’ enthusiasm and effort to create awareness among the children about the purpose of celebration. Also children were motivated to express their feelings in prose or poem about their teachers and to make greeting cards by using their creative ideas and skills.
