Mysuru: Navikotsava-2018, organised by Navika (Naavu Vishwa Kannadigaru), a forum of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) of Karnataka, commenced last evening at Kalamandira here.
Inaugurating the programme, District in-Charge Minister G.T. Devegowda lauded the NRIs in spreading Kannada across the globe regretting that Kannadigas were diminishing in the State capital of Bengaluru with Kannada getting into obscurity.
Speaking on the occasion, Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairman S.G. Siddaramaiah opined that usage of a language would help its growth. He advised people of the State not to have inferiority complex on Kannada language.
Addressing the gathering, Nadoja and Nityotsava poet Prof. K.S. Nissar Ahmed contended that children of Kannadiga NRIs were growing in the relevant ambience abroad obviously ignorant of their cultural roots in India who should be made aware of that.
Devegowda released a keyboard developed by Scientist Guruprasad, an NRI from USA, which would help to learn Kannada and other Indian languages.
The non-Resident Kannadigas from United States of America and other parts of the world presented various cultural programmes at Kalamandira as part of the two-day ‘Navikotsava’ that began yesterday.
A book of eight volumes written by another NRI Shivanagowda for easy learning of Kannada by children abroad was released by Siddaramaiah.
Former KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru, Thespian late Rajkumar’s daughter Lakshmi, Navika President Suresh Ramachandra, Convenor Prakash Banavara and others were present.
