Need for exclusive Ring Road buses

A KSRTC city bus deployed on Outer Ring Road travels near Alanahalli Junction this morning.

Sir,

This refers to the two recent news items — ‘Proposed Peripheral Ring Road’ and ‘Outer Ring Road to get 35 more traffic signals.’

The Mysuru Outer Ring Road was initiated in the 2000s and expanded during the 2010s. Yet, even today, there are no dedicated Ring Road buses operating. In contrast, the BMTC in Bengaluru had introduced its popular 500 series Ring Road buses way back in the 1990s.

There is significant commuter movement, especially along the western half of Mysuru’s Ring Road — between Nanjangud Road and Bengaluru Road. Instead of proposing yet another Ring Road (Peripheral), our elected representatives should focus on improving the existing one by introducing dedicated public transport. It is time to introduce Ring Road-only buses and circular bus routes, an idea that has been proposed several times through SOM.
