Mysuru: A body of a newborn girl was found inside a drain in Saraswathipuram here this morning. The body wrapped with a white cloth was found by passersby inside the drain behind JSS Women’s College through the gap of concrete slabs covering the drain. The drain has been covered with stone slabs for the pedestrians to walk.
It is learnt that residents heard a faint cry of a baby in the early hours of this morning and assumed that it was the sound of a baby crying in one of the neighbouring houses. But, when they enquired, they came to know that there were no babies in the houses, which gave rise to suspicion.
Meanwhile, at about 11.30 am, some persons who were walking on the concrete slabs saw a new white cloth inside the drain and on examining it closely, they found a newborn wrapped in it and immediately informed Saraswathipuram Police.
The Police, who rushed to the spot, took out the baby wrapped in a white cloth only to find the baby girl dead and shifted it to MMC&RI mortuary. Saraswathipuram Police have registered a case and are investigating.
