Mysuru: The new block of Ladies Hostel was inaugurated at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in city on Friday.
Noorin Bux, Director, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the facility. Prof. M. Pushpavathi, Director, AIISH, Mysuru, was present.
Being a national institute, students from across the country get admitted to the various courses at AIISH, with majority of 80% of the students being girls. The first block of the Ladies Hostel was built in 1968 and new blocks were added in 1991 and 2005 to cater to the increase in number of students.
With the increase in the number of seats for the various courses at AIISH over the last few years, there was a further shortage of rooms in the existing Ladies Hostel.
To cater to the present demand, the proposal to construct the new block of the Ladies Hostel was approved by 58th Executive Council Meeting of the institute held on June 3, 2022. The project was implemented by National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC) Ltd., a Government of India Enterprise, at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.25 crore. The construction of the new block began in April 2024 and is now ready for occupation.
The new block has 12 rooms in each of the three floors, which can accommodate 36 girl students. Stringent quality audits by Department of Civil Engineering, University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), Bangalore University, ensured the quality of construction.
