NIE signs MoU to promote temperate sericulture-related research

Mysore/Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, has inked an agreement with College of Temperate Sericulture (CoTS), Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Mirgund, to promote temperate sericulture related research and product development initiatives in India.

This agreement is the fruit of a day-long (Dec.14, 2021) deliberation between the two parties, and a logical extension of the NIE-CoTs MoU signed on Nov. 17, 2021.

During the deliberations, Dr. N.V. Raghavendra, Principal, NIE, signified the importance of cross-cultural exchange and transdisciplinary approach, for the betterment of research and innovation outcomes.  While Prof. M.F. Baqual, Associate Dean, CoTS, SKUAST-K, Mirgund, highlighted the need for co-operation between COTs, Kashmir and NIE, Mysuru, to strengthen the temperate sericulture operations, in-line with the National Innovation and Start-up Policy.

Going forward, the visiting delegates and the host team, decided to collaborative work towards addressing three key points of temperate sericulture, which included; engineering solutions to lessen the drudgery involved in temperate sericulture operations, exploring the suitability of silk for non-textile applications, and enabling a better connect between temperate seri-farmers, and temperate seri-domain experts.
