SarangPhagre grew up in an environment in which the values and aesthetics of art were held sacrosanct. He imbibed the essentials of music from his parents, both well-known performing artistes and teachers.

In early childhood, he learnt the percussion instrument tabla from Makarand Halve and continued training with him for almost ten years. In the meanwhile, it was classical vocal music towards which Sarang found himself drawn to and finally decided to pursue. Hence, began his tutelage in Khayal singing under late Vidu. Meera V. Rao, senior disciple of Pt. N.K. Datar, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb and Pt. Kumar Gandharva. He was also fortunate to receive guidance from late Pt. Vijay Sardeshmukh.

Moreover, Sarang’s training includes a continuous vigilant ear and guidance of his father, AbhayPhagre in the growth of his skill and understanding of raga sangeet. He is also receiving training from Vishal Moghe, disciple of Pt. ArunKashalkar.

He has been awarded the scholarship for vocal music by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for the year 2018-2020 and the B-high grade by the All India Radio (AIR).
