No change in Second PU syllabus: Tanveer Sait

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait has said that there will be no change in II PUC syllabus and the old syllabus will continue for 2017-2018 academic year. He was replying to a volley of questions at the Legislative Council yesterday by MLCs Ramachandra Gowda, Arun Shahapur and Tara Anuradha.

The questions were raised during the Question Hour and the Minister said that the State Government has written to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and has stated that it would continue the old syllabus and the government has not constituted any committee to prepare the new syllabus.

For the children from primary and 10th Standard, the syllabus has been prepared using issues from State and Nation as per their age, grasping power and learning abilities. “A textbook revision committee has already submitted revised CDs with regard to 104 subject matters and the government has examined and approved the changes and has sent the material to print. We have neither advocated Congress ideology nor saffron ideology but have presented facts in the textbooks,” Sait said.  

The Minister added that the government has removed confusion in all the textbooks. He said that the government will soon take steps to fill 927 Physical Education vacancies at primary and high schools.

Three-month deadline for all pre-schools to register

The Education Department has set a deadline of three months for pre-schools and play schools across Karnataka to register with it, failing which they will be deemed illegal and face action, said Tanveer Sait.

Following the case of alleged sexual assault on a child in a franchisee play school in Bellandur in Bengaluru, the State Government had passed an order making registration mandatory. The pre-school chain, with over 600 branches across the State, was found to be unregistered.

While registration was earlier optional, rules were changed to make it mandatory in February this year. Sait said the government was also planning to amend the Karnataka Education Act, 1983, to bring various forms of pre-schools under its ambit to ensure safety of children.
