Ending the uncertainty over continuity or discontinuity of SSLC grace marks, Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa said that there would be no grace marks system in SSLC exams from this academic year itself.
Speaking to presspersons here recently, he said the grace marks system was introduced in order to make up for loss of learning during the COVID pandemic.
Pointing out that there were fluctuations in SSLC exam results due to implementation of webcasting for the first time in 2023 exams, he said grace marks was introduced then for benefit of students, who were a worried lot due to webcasting.
Maintaining that webcasting has helped in preventing copying, Madhu expressed confidence that the students would perform well without grace marks.
It may be mentioned here that CM Siddaramaiah at a progress review meeting of the Department held a couple of months ago, too had expressed unhappiness over the grace marks and had asked officials to cancel it.
Noting that students are found to fare poorly in Maths, he said that apart from students, their parents too would be taught Maths under the ‘Ganitha-Ganaka’ programme which would help them enhance mathematical knowledge among their wards.
