Noopura Trust to host three-day Dance Festival from July 10

Mysore/Mysuru: City’s Noopura Kalaavidaru and Samskrutika Trust, in association with Kannada and Culture Department, will be organising ‘Mysuru Nrutya Guru Paramparaa,’ a three-day Dance Festival at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB Road from  July 10 to 12.

The festival will begin with a Bharatanatyam (Mysuru Baani) performance in memory of Padma Bhushan Dr. K. Venkatalakshmamma by disciples of Vidushi Vidya Ravishankar of Bengaluru at 6 pm on July 10. They will be accompanied by Vidushis Vidya Ravishankar and Sindhu Acharya on Natuvanga, Vidushi Bharati Venugopal on vocal, Vidwan R. Dasappa on mridanga and Vidwan M.R. Srikanth on violin.

Vidushi Vidya Ravishankar is the disciple of noted Danseuse of yesteryears  Dr. Venkatalakshmamma and her grand-daughter Prof. Shakuntala. She started ‘Matruka Cultural Trust Nrutyashaale’ in Mysuru in 1991, before moving to Bengaluru. She has won many awards and prizes including Mandya district Rajyotsava award, ‘Karnataka Kalashree’ award, ‘Aryabhata International award’,’ Kittur Rani  Chennamma award’ and ‘ Kempegowda award.’

At 7.15 pm on July 10, Vidushi Dr. Kripa Phadke will present a dance performance (Pandanallur style) in memory of Natyacharya K. Muralidhar Rao. She will be accompanied by her daughter Vidushi Pooja Sugama, Vidushi Sameeksha on vocal, Vidwan Vikram Bharadwaj on mridanga and Vidwan P. Samruddha on flute.

Vidushi Dr. Kripa Phadke of Mysuru has been enriching the art of dance in the cultural city for the past 30 years. Having earned a Doctorate Degree in Music from University of Mysore, she is currently serving as a Guest faculty of KSGH Music and Performing  Arts University, Mysuru.

  At 6 pm on July 11, the disciples of Vidwan Ramakrishna Kodancha of Udupi will present a dance performance (Mugur Style) in memory of Natyacharya K.B. Madhavarao. They will be accompanied by Vidwan Ramakrishna Kodancha on Natuvanga, Vidwan Madhur Balasubramanya  and M.Jyotirao on vocal, Vidwan M.R. Hanumantharaju on mridanga and Vidwan H.S. Tandavamurthy on violin.

Vidwan Ramakrishna Kodancha has been serving as a dance teacher at Academy of Music and Fine Arts in Udupi for the past 17 years. He has been popularising Mugur style of Bharatanatyam in the State.

At 7.15 pm on July.11, the disciples of Vidushi Srilakshmi Kumar will present a dance performance in memory of Natyacharya T.N. Somashekar. They will be accompanied by Vidushi Srilakshmi Kumar on Natuvanga, Vidushi C.S. Lakshmi on vocal, Vidwan M.R. Hanumantharaju on mridanga and Vidwan H.S. Tandavamurthy on violin.

Vidushi Srilakshmi Kumar is the daughter of late Natyacharya T.N. Somashekar and has been running ‘Sri Umamaheshwara Nrutya Kalakshetra Samsthe,’ which was  started by her father 60 years ago. She has won many awards, titles and prizes including ‘Natyavisharada,’ ‘Natyamayuri’ and ‘Nrutyakalasindhu.’

The valedictory of the three-day event will take place at 6 pm on July 12, which will be presided over by Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra, Director, Nrutyalaya  Trust, Mysuru.

Kannada and Culture Assistant Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan will be the chief guest.

Following the valedictory, disciples of Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao will present a dance performance in memory of Natyacharya M. Vishnudas, who served as Director of Saraswathi Nrutya Kalamandira.

They will be accompanied by Vidwan K. Rammurthy Rao on Natuvanga and vocal, Vidwan M.R. Hanumantharaju on mridanga and Vidwan H.S. Tandavamurthy on violin.

Natyacharya Prof. Ramamurthy Rao served in JSS educational Institutions as a Commerce lecturer for 35 years and has written many books, articles and columns on dance and related topics. He has won many awards and prizes including ‘Gunanidhi,’ ‘Adarsha Sevaaratna,’ ‘Nrutyabushana,’ ‘Nartanasiri’ and ‘Viprashri’ awards.
