Five senior alumni visit their alma mater
Mysore/Mysuru: A group of five veterans had nostalgic moments when they visited their alma mater, D. Banumaiah’s High School, recently.
All of the 80-plus age had their formative education at the high school level in this leading institution.
They went round the classrooms where they sat and learnt lessons, the library room where they borrowed books and the beautiful hall where they attended school functions, like anniversaries and class socials.
They saw the big colourful painting of the school Founder, Sowcar D. Banumaiah, still adorning the auditorium and photos of their Principal B.V. Banumaiah and Vice-Principal Prof. H.S. Krishnaswamy Iyengar, a well-known writer and columnist, and others.
The over six-decade-old antique photos, which one of the five old students, Samson Jayanth Sadhu, had brought with him, added to the pleasant memories as they could identify and recall the names of their teachers and colleagues.
One of the photos displayed in the school was of the historic occasion when Gandhiji visited the School during his visit to Mysuru, and D. Banumaiah was seated on the floor near him.
The five old students included Industrialist R. Guru of Ranga Rao & Sons, SDM Educational Institutions Administrative Officer N. Prasanna Kumar, Educationist Samson Jayanth Sadhu, Saraswathi Typewriting Institute ex-Principal Jayaram and Senior Journalist Gouri Satya.
They were received by Principal Prof. Basavaraju, Head Master Krupa Shankar and others. School President Dr. V.B. Jayadev took them round and explained the progress made over the years. He also honoured them.
Nearly 400 students are presently studying in the School.
