Mysuru, Oct. 25 – A notorious serial house burglar from Mysuru, wanted in over 50 cases across Mysuru and Bengaluru, has finally been arrested.
The arrest was made by a team from Vidyaranyapuram Police Station, Bengaluru, who nabbed the accused in Mysuru after weeks of coordinated surveillance. Now the Police are moving to recover stolen valuables worth Rs. 2 crore.
The accused, identified as Syed Aslam (son of Syed Jani), residing at No. 458, 2nd Stage, Rajivnagar, Mysuru, had long evaded capture, frustrating the Bengaluru, Mysuru District and City Police teams.
His string of precisely executed burglaries, leaving little forensic trace, had kept investigators guessing for months.
A major breakthrough came when investigators analysed CCTV footage from multiple crime scenes, and the images caught by a hidden camera inside a house in Hunsur, enabling the Mysuru District Police to prepare and circulate a composite sketch of the suspect. The Bengaluru Police, acting on this shared intelligence, tracked and arrested Aslam in Mysuru.
He was produced before a Bengaluru Court and remanded to judicial custody. Given his involvement in multiple cases, Bagalakunte and Soladevanahalli Police in Bengaluru have secured a body warrant to question him further in connection with their pending investigations.
Meanwhile, the Hunsur Police had also brought him to Hunsur yesterday for mahazar and other legal procedures before he was produced before the Mysuru Court, confirmed Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Vishnuvardhana this morning.
Hunsur burglary that nailed him
Investigators said Aslam’s downfall began with a burglary in Hunsur Town on Sept. 2, 2025, where he looted gold and valuables worth Rs. 4.5 lakh. The case (FIR No. 230/2025) was registered at Hunsur Town Police Station under Sections 331(3)(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (house-breaking with intent to commit an offence).
The complaint was lodged by C.R. Ravindrakumar, son of late C.N. Rajagopal Shetty, residing at House No. 3046/29, behind Sai Baba Temple, Manjunatha Layout, Hunsur. Ravindrakumar, who had travelled to Bengaluru on official work on Aug. 13, returned on Sept. 2 after friends and neighbours alerted him about the break-in.
According to the FIR, burglars forced open the front door, ransacked wardrobes and suitcases, and made away with 2 kg of silver articles, gold jewellery worth Rs. 1 lakh, and Rs. 2 lakh in cash, taking the total to Rs. 4.5 lakh.
Acting on SP Vishnuvardhana’s directions, Hunsur Town Inspector Santhosh Kashyap and Additional SP Nagesh visited the scene. Fingerprint Inspector M.N. Balasubramanya, the dog squad, and forensic teams conducted a detailed examination and collected evidence. Mysuru South Rural Police Inspector Shekhar also aided in the search.
During the investigation, CCTV footage data was scrutinised, revealing a pattern identical to that of Aslam’s earlier offences. His distinctive modus operandi — breaking in silently, erasing fingerprints, wiping surfaces and even sprinkling water to blur forensic traces — confirmed his identity.
History of burglaries
Aslam, who typically operated alone but occasionally used accomplices, is a seasoned offender with a long criminal trail across Commercial Street, Gangammana Gudi, Indiranagar, J.C. Nagar, Jnanabharathi, Tilak Nagar, Ulsoor, Upparpet, Mico Layout and Yeshwanthpur Police limits in Bengaluru; Hoskote (Bengaluru Rural); Khade Bazaar (Belagavi); Arakalgud (Hassan); Haveri Town; Maddur (Mandya); and Mandi, Rajivnagar, N.R. Mohalla, and Udayagiri Police limits in Mysuru.
He is a habitual house-burglar, previously convicted and imprisoned at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, Bengaluru. Despite several earlier arrests, Aslam resumed his criminal activities soon after release, continuing to target houses without CCTV surveillance and striking only when residents were away.
The arrest marks a significant success in inter-district Police coordination. Officers from Hunsur, Mysuru South (Rural) and Vidyaranyapuram (Bengaluru) worked in tandem, sharing intelligence and forensic evidence that led to the breakthrough.
