Governor’s powers as Chancellor transferred to Chief Minister with Cabinet approval
Bengaluru: In a major decision, the Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Draft Bill, 2024, was approved by the Cabinet on Thursday, thus transferring the powers that was until now vested with the Governor as the Chancellor of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) University to the Chief Minister.
With this, the Governor will not remain as the Chancellor of RDPR University, and the CM will be the Chancellor of the said Varsity, said Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs H.K. Patil, while addressing the media persons after the Cabinet meeting.
Ahead of the Winter Session of the State Legislature scheduled to start from Dec. 9 at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi, the State Cabinet has approved several Bills including Universities Amendment Bill, Karnataka Labour Welfare Corpus Fund (Amendment) to name a few.
If the Bill for amendment to Karnataka Labour Welfare Corpus Fund is passed by the Legislature, the labourers share will be increased to Rs.50, employer share to Rs.100 and Government share to Rs.50, said Minister Patil.
Presently, the labourer’s contribution is Rs. 20, employer contribution – Rs.10 and Government contribution – Rs. 20, added Minister Patil.
