Mysore/Mysuru: As part of National Nutrition Week, an awareness programme on nutrition for pregnant and lactating women and teenaged girls was held yesterday.
This programme has gained importance after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called to observe the current month as ‘Poshan Mas’ (Nutrition Month).
K. Padma, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Welfare, told SOM that stress on balance nutrition for women would be laid this month. This programme would be formally inaugurated on Sept.3 across the State. In the city, it will be held at Department Office in Vijayanagar. In the wake of Covid-19, awareness will be held online within the city. In rural areas, 20-25 women will be invited and educate them on the importance of nutrition by maintaining social distancing and wearing mask. Kadeeja, junior health assistant, Bannimantap PHC told SOM that a group of 20-25 women will be invited to the PHC to share information on healthy nutrition diet. All nutrition food items will be displayed on table and explain them about its importance. This programme is organised by Departments of Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Welfare.
