Occupants tied up; cash, valuables looted | Dacoity: Three get seven years rigorous imprisonment

Mysore/Mysuru: City’s 7th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced three persons to seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) after they were found guilty of dacoity.

Those sentenced to jail are 25-year-old R. Avinash alias Abhi, 25-year-old H. Naveen Kumar and 33-year-old Satish alias Shashi.

On Mar. 17, 2021, at about 7.30 pm, Avinash, Naveen Kumar and Satish, along with 30-year-old J. Ravi and 30 year-old Umesh, rang the calling bell of the house located on the 5th Main, 12th Cross, Kamakshi Hospital Road in Saraswathipuram, when house occupants — Sumukh P. Shastry, Akash, P. Vishwanath Shastry and Padmavathi — were present inside.

When the door was opened, all five barged into the house, threatened those present with a screw driver, hammer and knife, stuffed cloth into their mouths and stuck plaster on their mouths besides tying their hands and legs.

They then snatched 70 gram gold chain and 30-gram gold bangle from them, took away Rs. 10 lakh cash and silver articles kept in the wardrobe.

A case was registered at Saraswathipuram Police Station and the then Inspector C. Thimmaraju, who conducted investigation, arrested Avinash, Naveen Kumar, Satish and Umesh, besides submitting a charge sheet against them to the Court.

Judge M. Ramesh, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found Avinash, Naveen Kumar and Satish guilty of crime and sentenced them to seven years rigorous imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs. 10,000      on each.

Public Prosecutors K. Nagaraja and N.B. Vijayalakshmi, argued on behalf of Government.
