Based on footages of CCTV cameras installed at the nearby Bharatiya Co-operative Bank, Chamarajanagar Police yesterday arrested one person in connection with the incident of setting the ‘Dodda Ratha’ (chariot) of the historic Sri Chamarajeshwara Swamy Temple on fire on the night of Feb.18.
It is reported that Police, who took serious note of the incident had formed three teams to probe the case and the team which went through the footages of the CCTV camera, zeroed in on one person from the town and took him to custody and seized the match box used to ignite the fire from him.
It is learnt that the nabbed miscreant, during interrogation has confessed to the crime.
Meanwhile, Chamarajanagar SP Kuldip Kumar R. Jain, on being contacted by Star of Mysore, said that Police were interrogating some others and were on the look out for others involved in the incident.
It may be recalled that burning of the Dodda Ratha had triggered wide spread protests from devotees who even called for a Chamarajanagar bandh on Feb. 20.
