One killed, five injured as car topples and falls into canal

Srirangapatna: In a tragic incident, one person was killed on the spot while five others sustained serious injuries, when the car in which they were travelling toppled and fell into the canal after the driver lost control of the vehicle near K. Shettahalli on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in the taluk yesterday.

While the deceased has been identified as Narayan Singh (38), a resident of Shilangere in Kolar district, the injured have been identified as Krishna Singh, Narayan Singh, Sathyanarayana Singh, Narayan Singh and Sathyanarayan Singh.

Deceased Narayan Singh along with his relatives were on their way from Kolar to Paschimavahini in Srirangapatna to immerse the ashes of a relative in his Toyota Innova car.

When they neared K. Shettahalli, Narayan Singh, who was behind the wheels, lost control of the vehicle which toppled and fell into a canal killing him on the spot and leaving five others seriously injured.

The residents of the village who rushed to the spot, rescued the injured persons and admitted them to the General Hospital in the town where they were provided first-aid and were later shifted to a private hospital in Mysuru.

Srirangapatna Rural Police Station SI Puneeth and staff, who rushed to the spot, conducted preliminary investigations besides registering a case. Traffic was disrupted on the busy highway following the incident.
