Hanur: One person was killed while more than 10 suffered serious injuries, when the vehicle in which they were proceeding to Indi Basappa Temple near Tulasi Keri on Male Mahadeshwara Hills (MM Hills), fell into a gorge yesterday.
While the deceased has been identified as Veeranna Gowda (85) of Mahadeshwara Hills, those injured are 50-year-old Kempegowda, 70-year-old Madatambadi, 52-year-old Madaiah, 75-year-old Jade Madatambadi, 55-year-old Huchaiah, 40-year-old Naga, 37-year-old Puttaswamy, 66-year-old Madaiah, 23-year-old Mahesh, 42-year-old Shanthamma and 33-year-old Girijamma.
They were travelling in a Trax Toofan vehicle yesterday, when the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the fourth curve, resulting in the vehicle falling into the gorge. Passersby, who saw the mishap, informed MM Hills Police.
Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) Abdul Baig and Chikkakalegowda along with the staff, who rushed to the spot, summoned an ambulance and Kowdalli Health Centre staff, who arrived in the ambulance, provided first-aid and shifted the injured to Mettur Taluk Government Hospital in Tamil Nadu for further treatment. A case has been registered at Male Mahadeshwara Hills Police Station.
