One killed, pillion rider injured as MUV hits bike

Mysore/Mysuru: A two-wheeler rider was killed while pillion rider sustained serious injuries when a Toyota Innova Mutli-Utility Vehicle (MUV) hit the bike on D. Devaraja Urs Road yesterday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ullas Sagar (27), an employee of a private bank and a resident of Bettadabeedu village, Hampapura hobli, in H.D. Kote taluk.

Yesterday morning, Ullas was proceeding on his bike (KA-10-EE-3665) along with 36-year-old Varsha, who was riding pillion, from Devaraja Urs Road towards JLB Road, when the Innova MUV, which came from Dewan’s Road side, rammed into the bike, resulting in Ullas and Varsha sustaining serious injuries.

Though they were immediately rushed to a private hospital, Ullas succumbed to injuries at the hospital while Varsha is  undergoing treatment.

Devaraja Traffic Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.

It may be recalled that on last Sunday, Railway employee Shivakumar was killed when a KSRTC bus hit his electric scooter on Devaraja Urs Road-JLB Road Junction. Another accident had taken place on the same road about a week back, where a youth had died.

Protest

Following series of accidents on Devaraja Urs Road, former Corporator Prashanth Gowda and others staged a protest urging to rectify traffic rules.

He alleged that there were speed-breakers on Devaraja Urs Road earlier which were removed when the road was newly asphalted resulting in such accidents.

He urged authorities concerned to install scientific speed-breakers to control accidents and also install barricades where most accidents take place. Advocate Gopinath, Gururaj Shetty, Guru Prasad, Nandakumar, Skanda and others were present.
