Hunsur: The driver of the Maruti Omni van was killed on the spot and two others sustained serious injuries when the Maruti van rammed into a lorry parked on the roadside near Moodala Koppal Gate in the taluk yesterday.
While the deceased has been identified as Abdul Hameed (37), son of Kanniyanda Moosay, a resident of Napoklu in Kodagu, the seriously injured who are undergoing treatment at K.R. Hospital in Mysuru have been identified as Ajanees, son of Abdul Hameed and his son-in-law Dawood.
It is reported that the lorry (KA-21-B-1861) carrying goods, was proceeding from Madikeri to Mysuru and the driver of the lorry parked his vehicle on the roadside to attend nature’s call. In the meantime, the Maruti Van (KA-12-C-9954) driven by Abdul Hameed, rammed into the parked lorry, killing Hameed on the spot, leaving Ajanees and Dawood in a serious condition and the van badly damaged. It is learnt that Abdul Hameed, Ajanees and Dawood were coming to Mysuru to distribute wedding invitations.
Bilikere Sub-Inspector (SI) M. Nayak, who has registered a case in this regard, is investigating.
Meanwhile, sources in K.R. Hospital said that the injured duo were recovering and were responding to the treatment.
