Seema Haydon’s designs breathe life into the disappearing textile traditions of our country. She collaborates with weavers, craftsmen and textiles artists from all over India to blend designs, textures and surface embroideries, with exquisite craftsmanship.
‘Hand Woven’ is a founding principle across her range. Seema works on a variety of fabrics such as, Matka silk, Linen, Kanjeevaram, Muslin, Tussar, Kota Doria, etc. infusing a wide range of textile art like Ajrakh, Shibori, Dabu, Bagru, Kalamkari, Bandhani, Block Prints and Batik using all-natural dyes.
Her brand ‘Varastraa’ was launched in 2018. “Our country has many embroidery styles, unique to every region; some are on the verge of extinction. My mission is to revive these art forms by collaborating with the artisans and thereby provide them a livelihood,” says Seema.
She loves interacting with customers to understand them and explain philosophy of her designs and work. Come be enmeshed in the weaves of Varastraa at Impressionz on Dec. 11 at Hotel Metropole between 11 am and 9 pm.
