Online capacity-building programme for Odia teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti

Mysore/Mysuru: Panchanan Mohanty, former Professor, University of Hyderabad, inaugurated the six-day online capacity-building programme for Odia language teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) at Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL)  here yesterday and presented his views on the current state of the language education in India. 

He said “if our languages survive, only then the whole ecosystem will be able to survive.”

 While emphasising the importance of mother-tongue education in schools, he further added that Government bodies / Schools / Colleges must provide their teachers with the state-of-the-art training, tools, technologies, etc., so that they  themselves be able to develop relevant text and audio-video materials for the students, which can be used in the language classrooms.  

Gyanendra Kumar, Joint Commissioner, NVS, who presided, said that the present workshop will pave the way for the solutions for issues in educational evaluation. He requested NVS Odia teachers to make proper use of this opportunity to improve their professional competence.  

P.R. Dharmesh Fernandez, Deputy Director, CIIL and Head, Centre for Testing and Evaluation, briefed the participants about the activities undertaken by NTS-I and CIIL.

He also emphasised the importance of linguistic harmony through Indian Languages by successful implementation of NEP-2020. 

Pankaj Dwivedi, Officer In-charge, NTS-I and Programme coordinator, welcomed. Rajan N.P. Sanjay Kumar Bag, Lecturer, ERLC, Bhubaneshwar, briefed the objectives of the programmes. Kusum Kumari (NVS Deputy Director, NLI, Puri) is supervising overall logistics of the programmes. About 70 Odia teachers from various Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti Schools across India are participating in this online capacity-building programme from Aug.23 to 28. 

Renowned experts from reputed institutions such as IITs, Delhi University, CIIL, UOH, NCERT and different Universities across India will address  the programme organised under the joint patronage of Prof. Shailendra Mohan, Director, CIIL, Mysuru and Vinayak Garg, Commissioner, NVS (HQ).
