Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, two women including a doctor have lost a total sum of Rs. 8,43,818 to online fraudsters.
In the first case, 27-year-old Varnitha, a resident of Janata Colony in J.P. Nagar, received a message on her WhatsApp which stated about job openings at a city Convent.
The message also stated that in order to get the job, the aspirant must complete certain tasks and the fraudster got a total sum of Rs. 7.49 lakh transferred in phases from Varnitha, thus cheating her.
In the second case, a fraudster, who called 42-year-old Dr. N.A. Anitha Rani, a resident of Shakthinagar, informed her to pay the credit card fee failing which Rs. 50,598 will be deducted from her Bank account.
The caller then sent a website link to the doctor and informed her that she could prevent deduction of amount by clicking on the link sent to her.
When the doctor clicked on the link and began following the instructions, a total amount of Rs. 94,818 was deducted from her Bank account. Both the cases have been registered at city’s CEN Police Station.
