Online fraud: Retired official loses Rs. 66 lakh in fake share market

Mysore/Mysuru: A retired official has lost Rs. 66 lakh in fake share market. The retired official, who lost his money, is Rajesh (name changed), a resident of Vijayanagar in city.

About two months ago, Rajesh came across an advertisement pertaining to training on Facebook and clicked on the link and Rajesh’s mobile number was immediately included in the C-88 MONEY SUKH STUDY GROUP WhatsApp group, which provided information on share market. Rajesh also saw screenshots shared by fraudsters in the guise of group members who had shared their investment and profits.

Believing it, Rajesh contacted the WhatsApp Group Admin, following which he was sent a link and was asked to open a trading account. When Rajesh clicked on the link, mobile phone app MONEY SUKH SECURITIES got installed, following which Rajesh opened a trading account, invested Rs. 1 lakh and purchased shares.

Later, following information from the Group Admin, Rajesh sold the shares and got Rs. 4,991 as profit and happily withdrew the profit money. Rajesh then invested a total of Rs. 66,25,116 in phases and the app showed that he had got profit.  When Rajesh sent a request to withdraw the profit money, his request was rejected. When Rajesh enquired about it, he came to know that he has been cheated and lodged a complaint at city’s Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station.
