Online Fraud: Two cheated of Rs. 31.71 lakh in city

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, two persons have been cheated to the tune of Rs. 31,71,000 by online fraudsters in city.

In the first case, 43-year-old B.L. Raghavendra, a resident of J.P. Nagar, received a part time job offer on a Telegram group, which promised commission for completing travel package booking tasks.

When Raghavendra completed the first task, the fraudsters deposited Rs. 1,000 to his bank account as commission and the fraudsters told Raghavendra to invest money and then complete the tasks to get high commission. Raghavendra was then given an exclusive app following which Raghavendra invested Rs. 10,000 and completed the task for which a commission of Rs. 18,000 to be deposited to his account was displayed in the app.

The fraudsters then told Raghavendra to again invest money and complete new task to get the Rs. 18,000 commission following which he transferred a total of Rs. 29.79 lakh and got cheated.

In the second case, G. Sunil, a resident of Lalitha Mahal Road, received a work from home offer on the Telegram app and was given the task of booking flight tickets.

Sunil later transferred a total of Rs. 1.92 lakh in phases and was cheated. Both the cases have been registered at city’s CEN Police Station.
