Online fraud: Two lose lakhs of rupees

Mysore/Mysuru: Two persons including a home-maker in the city have lost several lakhs of rupees for the lure of making a windfall online.

M. Bharath, aged 30 and resident of Basaveshwara Road, KR Mohalla got a call on his cell phone from 75068-48271. The caller told Bharath about the task and follow Instagram accounts of celebrities that would fetch more money. Bharath came in his words and also got Rs. 300 deposited in his account for completing the task initially.

Later, Bharath was told to invest money for higher returns. Bharath did so and also received Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 18,000 from the fraudsters. Later, Bharath invested Rs.1.59 lakh in phases, only to be cheated at the end.

In another case, Savithri Bai, 37, a home-maker and a resident of KSRTC quarters in Bannimantap, was lured in a similar fashion by the fraudsters, by sending an advertisement to her Telegram account. Bai invested Rs. 5,25,500 in phases, but only to end up cheated by the fraudsters.

City’s Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police have registered both the cases.
