Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, two women senior citizens have been cheated to the tune of Rs. 8,99,700 by online fraudsters.
In the first case, a 60-year-old woman, who was sent a link to pay her electricity bill, has been cheated of Rs. 5 lakh by the fraudsters. The woman, who was cheated, is V. Usha Rani, a resident of Kuvempunagar in city.
After sending the website link to Usha on her WhatsApp number, fraudsters repeatedly called her from different phone numbers forcing her to make the payment.
When Usha clicked on the link, a Quick Support App got installed on her mobile phone and later Rs. 5 lakh was illegally transferred from her Bank account.
In the second case, 60-year-old Anuradha Prakash, a resident of T.K. Layout, received a message on her WhatsApp, which stated that there was a part time job and all she had to do was to like a YouTube channel, send a screen shot and receive money for it.
Anuradha was later added to a group in Telegram App where she was told to invest money and receive commission. Believing it, Anuradha transferred Rs. 3,99,700 and got cheated.
Both the cases have been registered at City’s Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station.
