Online trading: Man cheated of Rs. 30.85 lakh

Mysuru: Online fraudsters have cheated a man to the tune of Rs. 30.85 lakh on the pretext of online trading.

The man who lost his money is Roopesh (name changed), a resident of Yadavagiri in city.

Roopesh, who saw an advertisement pertaining to online trading of Facebook, clicked on the advertisement following which his mobile number was added to a WhatsApp group.

Later, an online link was sent to him and he was asked to install the App. After downloading the App and installing it, Roopesh provided Know Your Customer (KYC) information, following which an account in his name was activated.

Roopesh began to receive information about the share market, stocks and shares that can be traded and bought. Also, many people in the WhatsApp group had also posted screenshots about the amount they had invested and the profits they had received.

In his complaint, Roopesh has stated that he too invested money and had earned profits besides stating that he had withdrawn Rs. 1 lakh profit from his trading account.

He later stated that, he invested a total of Rs. 30.85 lakh in phases and later received a message that he had earned Rs. 2 crore profit. But when he tried to withdraw the money, he was asked to remit 15 percent of the profit amount as brokerage but later his account became dead.

Realising that he has been cheated, Roopesh has lodged a complaint at city’s CEN Police Station.

Woman cheated of Rs. 9.53 lakh

A woman has been cheated of Rs. 9.35 lakh after she clicked on the message sent to her mobile number asking her to convert her SBI rewards points to cash.

After the woman clicked on the message, she was asked to provide the last four digits of her Bank account number, Aadhaar card number and enter the One Time Password (OTP) sent to her. When she entered the required information, the fraudsters siphoned off Rs. 9.53 lakh from her OD Loan Account, following which she lodged a complaint at city’s CEN Police Station.
