Operation Face Mask: City Police book 1,024 cases, collect Rs. 1,90,500 fine on single day

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru City Police, who conducted ‘Operation Face Mask’ against those found not wearing face masks in their jurisdiction on Saturday, have booked a total of 1,024 cases besides collecting a total fine of Rs. 1,90,500 from the offenders.

From July 8 till yesterday, a total of 17,177 cases have been booked and a total fines of Rs. 39,79,200 have been collected. 

Till yesterday, Narasimharaja (NR) Police have booked 501 cases, Mandi Police 681, V.V. Puram Police 1,005, Jayalakshmipuram Police 604, Metagalli Police 770, Vijayanagar 968, Hebbal Police 637, Devaraja Police 1,133, Lashkar Police 825, Nazarbad Police 689, Udayagiri Police 526, Alanahalli Police 808, K.R. ACP 5, Krishnaraja (KR) Police 699, Lakshmipuram Police 351, Ashokapuram Police 318, Vidyaranyapuram Police 885, Saraswathipuram Police 499, Kuvempunagar Police 602, Devaraja Traffic Police 723, K.R. Traffic Police 1,017,   N.R. Traffic Police 488, Siddarthanagar Traffic Police 1,680 and V.V. Puram Traffic Police have booked a total of 763 cases in their limits.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda said that though awareness on the dangers of COVID-19 and precautions to be taken to prevent contracting and spreading of the deadly virus was conducted and still being undertaken, the public have taken it lightly and have displayed their negligence.

The DCP further said that wearing face mask, washing hands frequently and maintaining social distance are the only ways to avoid contracting the virus and also spreading it to others till COVID-19 vaccine is available. But the public by not following these norms are displaying their negligent attitude, he regretted.
