Operation Wheel Lock: Increase fine amount

Sir,

Apropos the news item “Operation Wheel Lock” by K.R. Traffic Police (Star of Mysore dated June 10), I feel that the fine of  Rs.100 is too paltry.  The fine of Rs.100 will not compensate the amount of inconvenience caused by the motorists by parking at “No Parking” zones and other areas causing hindrance for pedestrians and free flow of traffic.

The spot fine amount should act as a deterrent for the traffic rule violators. Most of the violators will not mind paying Rs.100 and repeat the offence. The fine amount should be fixed at Rs.300 as was charged when “Tiger” was in operation.

While locking the vehicles, hope the Traffic Police will also check for other visible traffic violations like defective registration  number plate, missing brake lights, extra lights etc.

Considering the number of traffic rules violators in Mysuru, 50 wheel locks per Traffic Police Station may not be sufficient.
