Opposing RCEP, farmers to stage protest on Oct. 24

Mysuru: Members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene, would stage a protest in city on Oct. 24 urging the government not to include agriculture sector and food products in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement.

Disclosing this at a press meet at Jaladarshini Guest house here yesterday KRRS District General Secretary Hosur Kumar said that farmers throughout the country would stage a protest that day and added that farmers would take out a procession with cattle on Oct. 24 at 10.30 am from Ramaswamy Circle to DC office. He further said that the Union Government was in discussion with 15 other nations regarding RCEP and added that the agricultural sector would be badly hit if India signs the RCEP agreement. He pointed out that the agreement would enable easy flow of milk, milk products, agricultural produce and other products to the country without any tax. He further said that similar protests with cattle would be held at all district centres. 

KRRS leaders M.S. Ashwathnarayan Raje Urs, Saragur Nataraj, P. Marankaiah and others were present.
