Bengaluru: Ending the suspense over its choice of candidate for the post, the BJP High Command on Monday named Chalavadi Narayanaswamy as the Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
A BJP press release said that Chalavadi Narayanaswamy has been appointed by Karnataka BJP in-Charge Radha Mohan Das Agrawal as per the directions of BJP National President J.P. Nadda.
Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, who is a Dalit leader, had quit Congress and joined BJP in 2018. He is known for his struggles for getting Constitutional Dalit rights.
The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Kota Sreenivas Poojari who quit as the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council after he got elected to the Lok Sabha.
