Mysuru: Oriental Research Institute (ORI) in association with Mahajana First Grade College had organised a National Seminar on ‘Literary contributions of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’ at Aryabhata auditorium in Manasagangothri here this morning.
About 200 scholars and students of history participated.
The seminar commenced with Vedaghosha by vedic scholars and rendition of the then official anthem of Mysore State ‘Kayo Shri Gowri’ as the dignitaries arrived on stage. The ambience was befitting the era of the then Wadiyars.
Inaugurating the programme by watering a sapling, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar recalled the invaluable contribution of the then Maharajas of Mysore towards education, art and culture. She along with other dignitaries offered floral tributes to the portraits of Chamaraja Wadiyar and Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
Mysore University In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. C. Basavaraju, who presided, said that the contribution of Wadiyars to education was vital as students those days had to go to Madras (Chennai) to pursue degree till Mysore Varsity was established. He recalled that the logo of Mysore University Centenary celebration too was designed by Pramoda Devi.
Mahajana Education Society President R. Vasudevamurthy was the chief guest. ORI Director Dr. S. Shivarajappa welcomed. Hon. Advisor of ORI Dr. T.V. Sathyanarayana and others were present.
