Outsourced Hostel workers seek wages for lockdown period

Mysore/Mysuru: Seeking payment of wages for lockdown period, outsourced workers serving in Hostels, Residential Schools and Ashram Schools run by Government Departments, staged a demonstration under the banner of AITUC affiliated Karnataka Rajya Samyukta Vasathinilaya Karmikara Sangha, in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on Tuesday.

Claiming that the Government has issued a circular directing the authorities to pay wages in full to all outsourced (contract) workers for the lockdown period, the protestors alleged that some officials have declined to pay wages, which is unfair.

Urging the authorities to implement the Government circular, they demanded payment of pending wages for those serving in Social Welfare Department, announcement of a special allowance for workers serving in Hostels and Residential Schools which have been turned into Quarantine Centres and appointment of outsourced workers in accordance with their seniority to posts lying vacant in other Government Departments, among other things.
