Mysuru/Mysore: City’s Sudharma Sanskrit daily editor-couple K.V. Sampath Kumar and his wife Vidu. Jayalakshmi, who were recently conferred Padma Shri award by the Centre marking Republic Day celebrations, were felicitated by the Sanskrit Department of Maharani’s Science College for Women here recently.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanskrit Department Head D. Sheela Kumari said that ‘Sudharma’ being the only Sanskrit daily in the world, is a pride of Mysuru.
Pointing out that the Daily which saw its first publication on July 15, 1970 is now celebrating its Golden Jubilee, she said that the paper has started e-paper facility since 2008.
Noting that the Daily has readers across the globe, Sheela Kumari said that it is really surprising to note that the annual subscription rate of the newspaper was just Rs.500. She further said that the newspaper is one more feather in the cap of Mysuru, the cultural capital of the State.
Speaking after receiving felicitation, Jayalakshmi credited Scholars Dr. H.V. Nagarajarao and Dr. T.V. Sathyanarayana for the success of the newspaper.
Exhorting the students to learn Sanskrit, she appealed everyone to attend the two-day Golden Jubilee celebrations of ‘Sudharma’ to take place at Nada Mantapa in Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Ashrama on Ooty Road on Feb.29 and Mar.1.
