Mysore/Mysuru: Pailwan Sumith Gujjar of Haryana won the ‘Suttur Kesari’ title defeating his opponent Pailwan Sagar Tamade of Maharashtra at the 42nd National-level Traditional Wrestling Tournament held as a part of Suttur Jathra Mahotsava in Suttur yesterday.
The wrestling tournament was inaugurated by Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre in presence of Suttur Mutt Pontiff Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji. A total of 65 wrestling bouts were held for Suttur Kesari title.
Meanwhile, Pailwan Nithin of Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Mysuru, defeated Pailwan Dixit of Bhoothappa Garadi to win the ‘Suttur Kumara’ title.
A total of 65 wrestlers from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and other parts of the State had taken part in the State-level Wrestling Tournament.
Each match was held for a duration of five minutes and wrestlers awarded with participation certificates and mementoes. Onlookers were seen keenly involved in matches supporting their favourite wrestlers adding cheer to the tournament.
Minister Eshwar Khandre called upon people to maintain a healthy life stating that with the change in the lifestyle and staying away from physical and sporting activities, people were facing health issues in the recent years.
Urilinga Peddi Mutt Pontiff Sri Jnanaprakasha Swamiji, former MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, ChaMUL President Y.C. Nagendra, former University of Mysore VC Prof. Hemantha Kumar were present.
