Park near Kalamandira: Not a good idea

Sir,

It is shocking to know that a new Park has come up near Kalamandira junction on Mysuru-Hunsur Highway. Parks are meant for people to relax themselves for a while, particularly in the evenings, breathing fresh air and enjoying virtually a noise-free environment.

But, this new Park does not meet the above requirement. The site is abutting a Highway that caters to heavy vehicle movement, day and night. Besides, it is a junction of two roads.

During the evenings, the traffic will be maximum. Such traffic causes high air pollution and noise in the Park. Obviously, users of the Park will have to bear such an environment for a considerable time. Regular visitors, obviously, will ultimately suffer from lung diseases and induced hearing loss. Therefore, the project should be abandoned,  immediately.

Mysuru City Corporation should seek advice from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and proceed further as per their advice. Even otherwise, KSPCB should, by itself, take up the matter and determine whether or not the site is suitable for a public Park. So also, the Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) should intervene in the matter. If necessary, it should make it a legal issue.
